Singer Michael Buble has pulled out of a planned performance at the BBC Music Awards following his son’s cancer diagnosis.
The 41-year-old star and his wife Luisana Lopilato announced Noah’s devastating health battle on Friday (04Nov16) and in their statement they explained they were suspending any professional commitments for the near future.
“We are devastated about the recent cancer diagnosis of our oldest son Noah who is currently undergoing treatment in the US,” the couple’s statement read. “We have always been very vocal about the importance of family and the love we have for our children. Luisana and I have put our careers on hold in order to devote all our time and attention to helping Noah get well.”
Michael was set to appear at the BBC prizegiving on 12 December (16), but he has since cancelled.
“We send Michael and his family our very best wishes,” BBC Music director Bob Shennan says.
In addition to the BBC Music Awards, Buble is set to host the Brit Awards in London on 22 February (17) and the Juno Awards on 2 April (17). As of press time, he is still billed to appear at both.
Buble has yet to further comment on his three-year-old’s health battle, but Luisana’s sister Daniela has dismissed reports Noah is suffering from leukaemia.
“To tell you the truth, I’m devastated. This is very recent,” she told told Argentinian journalist Tomas Dente. “The only thing I ask is that you don’t speculate because not everyone has children and can understand what this means.
“Michael and my sister will publish more statements and I can’t say anymore but it’s not leukaemia or the central nervous system as people are saying. That’s all I can say.”
